About Kissimmee Downtown
Historic Downtown Kissimmee is the original walkable core of Kissimmee, the city just south of the Walt Disney World area that predates the theme-park era by nearly a century. A few blocks of Broadway and Emmett Street are lined with restored early-twentieth-century storefronts, independent shops, family restaurants, cafes, bars, and small galleries — a very different atmosphere from the US-192 hotel strip a few miles north. Shopping is small-scale and local: antiques, art, vintage clothing, boutique apparel, gifts, and specialty home goods. Restaurants range from Southern comfort food and classic diners to farm-to-table kitchens and international cuisines, and a growing craft-beer and wine-bar scene stays active on weekend evenings. Fridays and weekends often bring live music in the outdoor plazas. Directly adjacent is Kissimmee Lakefront Park, a wide expanse of lawns, a marina, a fishing pier, and walking paths along the northern shore of Lake Tohopekaliga (Lake Toho), where it's common to see sandhill cranes and alligators from a safe distance. A SunRail commuter-rail station two blocks north links downtown Kissimmee to Orlando, Winter Park, and the airport without a car. Parking around downtown is free and straightforward, and the district hosts regular farmers' markets, seasonal festivals, and classic-car nights through the year.
